Hello All,
Happy Spring!
After a long, cold winter, it feels good to finally be able to call it spring here in New Hampshire. Life is certainly bursting here on the farm. The seedling house is full of transplants and the fields and hoop houses are filling up quickly with lettuce, onions, kale, swiss chard and our first raspberry plants. Beth has been busy harvesting an abundance of beautiful tulips that have been adding color to our days.
It is a wild year of growth here at Homeplace Farm and we have jumped right into the challenge. Once the snow melted we resumed building two hoop houses. One is almost ready for plastic and the other we are working diligently on this week. Both need to be ready for tomato and pepper transplants around May 10th or sooner!
We added 36 apple trees to our orchard and 200 raspberry plants to the farm. Amidst it all, we are seeding and transplanting the annual crops like greens, onions, carrots, tomatoes, peppers, flowers and so much more. The chickens are happily out on pasture every day and laying an abundance of eggs. These warm sunny days make us grateful to work outside especially as we learn the rhythms of working on our own land.
In the back office, plans for our new Farm Store on Union Street are coming together and we hope to break ground in June. Although we don't have a Farm Store this year we hope you will come out and support the farm at the Peterborough Farmers' Market (every Wednesday 3pm - 6pm at the Bowling Alley) or by purchasing our produce at Nature's Green Grocer or Roy's Market.
A quick note about Farm Credit Cards from last year. If you still have credit left, it is still valid! Come to the Farmers' Market to use it. If you aren't sure how much is left, we would be happy to tell you your remaining balance. We can also add more credit to your card if you like.
Please reach out to us if you have questions. We hope to see you at market!
