Hello All,
In between the rain today we started harvesting our potatoes. The joy of harvesting potatoes is in their nature; how they lie buried below ground, perfect and waiting, long after the green plants have died back. We started with our red and white potatoes, unearthing the two colors from the straight rows. It certainly isn't our best year for potatoes, but there will be plenty for the rest of the CSA season. The lack of rain in July really impacted their growth.
In the hoop houses the cucumbers continue to amaze us, providing a whole 180 lbs today even as some of the plants have started to die back. The peppers grow colorfully on the plants, even after most of the plants have fallen over, due to our lack of trellising them this year. For us farmers, we see both the beauty and the chaos. It can be hard after 5 days away, say, to see the beauty above the never ending to do list, but it is there. In the bumblebee humming among the dahlias, the laughter of our farm volunteers while they harvest tomatoes and in the bounty we manage to spread out each week for you, our members.
Now to bed for my tired body, see you tomorrow!

Recipes Ideas:
My mom sent me this turmeric fried rice with bursting tomatoes that looks delicious! Hoping to try it this week.
While we were harvesting potatoes today one of our work shares told us she has been making lots of quiches with leeks. Especially delicious when you have lots of eggs, HERE is one to get you started. You can really take it anywhere though with whatever veggies or even meat you have on hand.
Have fun! Send us recipes if you tried something and loved it.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
We are excited to be growing for you. See you on Tuesday.
